New Freight Classifications and Higher Shipping Charges for NMFC 18260

The National Motor Freight Traffic Association has made an important change to its National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) that affects many shippers.

The NMFC description for automotive body parts and trim formerly was sub-classified into four categories. Effective April 1, this description is updated with new cubic density levels and re-classified into nine categories. Both the old and new sub-classifications are listed below.

If you ship any product classified as NMFC 18260, it is likely that this product has been moved into a different freight classification.

If your product moved into a higher classification and you continue to tender it at the lower classification, carriers will re-classify it and adjust the shipping charges. If your product moved into a lower classification, you'll want to be sure to tender it at the new class to take advantage of the lower shipping rate.
