Mid-year LTL and TL Pricing Update
IMS Markit and the
Journal of Commerce
analyzed LTL and truckload pricing through the first half of 2019 and published the following conclusions:
LTL and TL rates are still rising on an annualized basis, but more slowly than a year ago.
Truckload rate inflation has slowed significantly, while LTL rate inflation has slowed only moderately.
LTL carrier price hikes in the second half of 2019 will resume rate growth sequentially and annually, but the overall increase for 2019 should not exceed 5%.
Truckload rates have declined for two quarters after hitting an all-time high in December, but are still higher than at the same time a year ago.
Truckload rates appear more vulnerable than LTL rates to economic cycles.
