LTL Rates Rise After Yellow Closes

The collapse of Yellow is the largest shutdown in trucking history. (Yellow is the parent company of LTL carriers Holland, New Penn, Reddaway, and YRC Freight.)

The closure leaves thousands of Yellow customers looking for LTL capacity. Other LTL carriers have responded by raising rates. Even shippers that didn’t work with Yellow are likely to see LTL rates climb by mid-single-digit percentages, according to SJ Consulting Group.

LTL rates were already near all-time highs prior to Yellow's shutdown. Analysts now expect rates to climb well into 2024 as the surviving carriers absorb Yellow's traffic.
